There is a Maori saying;
Nã tãu rourou me taku rourou, ka ora ai te manuhiri. With your food basket and my food basket, the multitudes will be fed.
This saying is at the heart of what VSA does.
VSA has been around for almost 45 years working towards a better world. VSA volunteers work in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and the Pacific. The volunteers go for around two years, working alongside local people to share skills.
VSA volunteers have to listen and learn from their partners in order to share their ideas and understandings. It’s about building trust, relationships and friendships, and learning and working together.

The money raised from the sale of friendship bracelets helps to support VSA volunteers, paying for their daily basics, accommodation, food and transport. Through your fundraising, communities are able to access and support volunteers with the key skills that they need.

We’re asking you to help the world’s poorest by getting everyone at your school or group to wear a $2 friendship bracelet. Instead of sending money to people in need, it’s helping VSA send volunteers with knowledge and skills. The bracelets are pretty cool as well.
Check out VSA’s website. Go to www.vsa.org.nz or click here. You’ll find information about becoming a member of VSA, where we work and the kind of jobs that we offer. Perhaps you could think about becoming a VSA volunteer yourself in the future!
